The schedule this year has favored us, as all four of the Wild Card games are incredible matchups across the board.
The first game on Saturday features the Buffalo Bills on the road to take on the Houston Texans. The Bills have been firmly in the fifth spot in the AFC for a while, while the Texans are the winners of the AFC South.
These two teams get it done way differently on the field, so let’s break down the matchup and see where you should be putting your money.
One Year Away Or Ready To Make The Leap?
Buffalo has been featured in the playoffs once in the last 20 years, but it never really felt like it belonged there.
This year is different. The Bills feature one of the best defenses in the NFL that is led by cornerback Tre’ Davious White, and quarterback Josh Allen’s play has come along quite nicely in his second year.
Allen looks the part of a franchise quarterback. If Lamar Jackson had not had his historic rushing season, we would be talking more about Allen and his ability to move the chains with his legs.
Rookie running back Devin Singletary will be coming out of the backfield. Singletary suffered from injuries early this season but has flourished into form as the team’s top running back.
This Bills team was on the brink of taking the division crown from the Patriots for the first time in 11 seasons.
Taking down Tom Brady is no easy feat, but the Bills were right there in a one-score game in Week 16.
At any rate, this Bills team is built to last, but it’s unfortunate it doesn’t get home field for any of its postseason games.
Watson The Key To The Promised Land For Houston
Deshaun Watson has been quietly having one of the best seasons of his career. He rested in Week 17 but has been healthy for the entire 2019 campaign.
He’s found his groove with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and they have to be one of the fiercest duos in all of the NFL.
The Texans are also going to get a spark in this game, as defensive end JJ Watt is returning for the postseason. Watt tore his pectoral early in the year and is somehow back in time for the playoffs.
Houston desperately needs a game-changer like Watt on the defensive side of the ball. The Texans’ defense has just been lackluster since his exit.
They aren’t bad as a team defensively, but there certainly is not a whole lot to write about otherwise. This team is led by Watson alone, and he is the reason for multiple victories this season.
The Texans are probably my least favorite team in the entire playoffs, but you can never quite count out a player like Watson.
With Watt back to terrorize opposing quarterbacks, be on the lookout for this Houston team.
Betting Preview
These two teams are pretty evenly matched across the board, and that is why the Texans draw the favorite in this game at -3.
It seems like the Texans are only the favorites because they are the home team in this matchup, and that tends to matter more in the playoffs than it does in the regular season.
Even with that being the case, I think I am going with the underdog for this pick. I love the Bills’ progress this season, and I think they squeak this out in a close game.
Make sure to lock in your bets before kickoff and tune in on Saturday!
